When Grace Meets Our Weakness: A Powerful Day in Milwaukee, WI with Top Youth Speaker Eddie Cortés
Some days hit differently. Today was one of those days.
I had the absolute privilege of speaking at the National Lutheran Schools Spirit Day in Milwaukee, WI, sharing a message that is deeply personal to me—one rooted in faith, hope, and the unshakable truth of God’s grace. With 800 K-12th grade students gathered, I shared 2 Corinthians 12:9:
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
We unpacked something powerful together—how the word “perfect” in Hebrew and Greek means wholeness or completion. That means God doesn’t just show up in our struggles with enough grace to get us through—He shows up with power that makes us whole. He takes our pain and redeems it, turning our struggles into stories of victory, our brokenness into purpose, and our weaknesses into undeniable evidence of HIS strength.
The Stories That Moved Me
At the end of the assembly, students came up for autographs, high-fives, and words of encouragement. But it was two high school students’ stories that made my heart skip a beat.
- A junior shared with me that he constantly battles the feeling of not being enough. But today, he was reminded that in Christ, he is already made whole. He is ENOUGH because Jesus is enough.
- A freshman courageously told me that his mother had committed suicide and his father had walked out on him. As we spoke, he realized something profound—his parents’ story does not have to be his story. Hope is real, and God’s grace is sufficient.
These moments are why I do what I do. God’s word is alive, and His power is still working in the hearts of students.
The Message Behind My Message
While I don’t always have the opportunity to speak openly about JESUS in public school settings, every message I share is inspired by the truth of God’s word. Whether I’m speaking about resilience, self-worth, or overcoming adversity—His power and grace are always at the core.
