Resilience Shines in Escondido, CA with Top Youth Speaker Eddie Cortés
What a day at San Pasqual Union Elementary in Escondido, CA! From the moment I stepped into the gym for the I’m Possible school assembly program, I could feel the energy. These students came ready to dream big, push past limits, and embrace resilience.
The Power of Resilience
We all face challenges—in school, in friendships, in life. But the real question is: What do we do when things get hard?
Resilience is the ability to bounce back stronger. It’s knowing that when life throws obstacles your way, you don’t stop—you rise. And that’s what I wanted every student to walk away with today.
Research even shows that resilient students perform better academically. They don’t just survive struggles; they grow from them. They push forward, work harder, and refuse to let failures define them.
I’m Possible: The Mindset That Changes Everything
During the assembly, we explored a powerful truth:
- Your potential is far greater than anyone’s opinion of you.
- Your potential is far greater than your limitations.
- You are worthy of your dreams.
- You are FULL of possibilities.
Too often, students get stuck in a “this is just the way I am” mindset. They think if they’re not naturally good at something, they never will be. But that’s NOT true. Growth happens through struggle. Resilience is what turns “I can’t” into “I can.”
The Best Moment of the Day
At the end of the assembly, a bunch of students rushed up to me for high-fives, fist bumps, and hugs. But one moment stood out.
A third-grade girl with rosy cheeks and long blonde hair couldn’t contain her excitement. She jumped up and down, over and over, shouting:
“Eddie, you inspire me! You inspire me! You inspire me to chase my dreams!”
Y’all. That right there is why I do this. That moment, that spark, that realization in a student’s heart that they are capable of more than they ever imagined—that’s everything.
A Message That Matters
Hearing students say, “That was the best assembly ever!” or “I’m going to keep trying!” is the best kind of feedback. But I also want to thank San Pasqual Union Elementary for their kind words:

It’s an honor to share this message, and I’m grateful for every opportunity to remind students that they are possible.
