Reimagining Possibilities in Bedford, NH with Top Youth Speaker Eddie Cortés
Some moments stick with you.
Like standing in the middle of Ross A. Lurgio Middle School after my I’m Possible assembly, surrounded by students high-fiving, fist-bumping, and even asking for autographs. Their excitement was contagious. Their gratitude? Heartwarming.
“Eddie, you inspired me today!” I heard it over and over.
But my favorite part? Seeing them reimagine what’s possible—realizing that their limitations don’t have to define them.
When Life Says “You Can’t” – Reimagine What You CAN Do
One of the biggest roadblocks for students (and let’s be honest, adults too) is focusing on what we CAN’T do instead of what we CAN.
- Not great at math? That doesn’t mean you can’t improve.
- Didn’t make the team? That doesn’t mean you’re not an athlete.
- Struggling with a subject? That doesn’t mean you’re not smart.
Too often, students let their struggles become stop signs instead of speed bumps. That’s why one of the most powerful lessons in my motivational youth speaker program is this:
Don’t let what you CAN’T do interfere with what you CAN do.
This is what resilience is all about. It’s not about ignoring challenges—it’s about reimagining your approach to them.
A Home Run Kind of Day – Batting Practice with Greg LaRocca
Speaking of reimagining dreams, after my school visit, I had the chance to take some swings in batting practice with former MLB player Greg LaRocca. (Yes, you read that right—ex-major league!)
As a kid, my dream was to play baseball for the Yankees. But when others told me I wasn’t good enough, I believed them. I let their opinions shape my path.
If I could go back, I’d tell my younger self exactly what I told the students at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School:
- Your potential is greater than anyone’s opinion of you.
- Your potential is greater than your limitations.
Greg and I talked about how failure is part of growth, and how every athlete, student, and dreamer faces setbacks. The difference? Resilient people don’t let those setbacks define them.
Teachers Win the Shoelace Challenge!
Of course, no school visit is complete without a little friendly competition. We had an epic Student vs. Teacher Shoelace Challenge… and let’s just say, the teachers walked away VICTORIOUS! Well played, educators!
An Electrifying Experience – Thank You, Bedford!
This assembly was extra special because it marked my 25th state as a motivational youth speaker! What a journey!
And it wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible team at Ross A. Lurgio Middle School.
Principal Ed Joyce, thank you for your leadership and for bringing this important message to your students.
Amanda LaRocca, the Parent Teacher Group, and the entire tech team—you guys worked miracles behind the scenes!
And to the staff and students—thank you for your energy, your openness, and your belief in the impossible.
As Principal Joyce put it: “Eddie electrified the room… His message on resilience really hit home with our students… I highly recommend him.“
I can’t wait to see how these students reimagine their dreams and chase their I’m Possible moments.
Until next time, dream big and never stop believing in what’s possible!
