Resilient Dream Chasers in Virginia with Motivational Youth Speaker Eddie Cortés
What’s up, everyone! Eddie Cortés, here, and I’m still riding a wave of good vibes from an unforgettable tour stop in Page County, Virginia. This past week was a powerful reminder that the “I’m Possible” mission is about more than just a message—it’s about connection, shared identity, and the pure joy of seeing students feel seen.
Last week I had two-day, five-presentation marathon across four amazing schools, and even led a workshop for parents and educators. It was a whirlwind of energy, high-fives, and powerful conversations. I was so honored to bring my I’m Possible Assembly Programs to Luray Elementary, Springfield Elementary, Shenandoah Elementary, and Stanley Elementary. The students and staff at all these schools were absolutely incredible.
Small Moments, Big Impact
My presentations are always about the big ideas—like overcoming challenges and turning setbacks into opportunities for growth—but it’s the small, personal moments that stick with me the most.
At one of the schools, a group of Latino students came up to me after the assembly. They thanked me in Spanish for inspiring them. They told me how much it meant to see someone who looked like them on stage, sharing a message of hope. “He’s like me. He speaks Spanish,” one little boy excitedly told his teacher. In a moment that was both simple and profound, they saw themselves and their own “I’m Possible” story. That’s a connection that you can’t plan, and it’s a feeling that makes my heart jump every single time.
Going Bananas for Resilience
One of the most fun parts of my school assembly program is the shoelace challenge. It’s a silly, interactive task that teaches a powerful lesson. This time, I invited a teacher to join the students on stage, and the students went absolutely bananas! They were so excited they could not contain themselves. And when she won the challenge? The entire student body erupted in cheers, going wild for their teacher’s victory. That pure, unbridled excitement for someone else’s success is a beautiful thing. It showed that the students weren’t just listening to the message of resilience—they were living it out, celebrating someone who faced a challenge and overcame it.
And the positive energy didn’t stop there. After one of my talks, this cute third grader with curly brown hair and rosy cheeks came up to me and said, “I can’t wait to get home and tell my grandmother about you.” Moments like that remind me that the message is reaching beyond the auditorium and into homes, inspiring dreams across generations.
The “I’m Possible” Mission
My goal is always to inspire students to develop the inner strength to bounce back from setbacks and view obstacles as opportunities for growth. Through my school assembly program, I empower students to see that their potential is not limited by their circumstances, but by their choice to rise above them.
And I’m so proud to say that the impact of the programs was clear. My post-event surveys came back with a perfect 5 out of 5 stars, confirming that the message resonated deeply. In fact, one of the principals was so impressed, she said, “I’d offer you a job, but I know you’re not available.” That’s a huge compliment and a testament to the power of a message that truly sticks. I’m so grateful for these leaders who believe in the mission as much as I do.
Parent & Educator Workshop
In the workshop for parents and educators, I took the conversation even deeper. We talked about how adults have a massive influence on a student’s inner critic and how our words can either build up their confidence or reinforce their doubts. We also dove into strategies for cultivating perseverance and fostering a place of belonging in the classroom.
A Huge Thank You
A massive thank you to Chris from Page County Public Schools, Principal Joanna from Shenandoah Elementary, Principal Anita from Stanley Elementary, and Principal Elizabeth from Luray Elementary for the invite and for your trust. Your passion for empowering students is an inspiration.
To all the students and staff in Page County, thank you for your energy and for proving that you are all full of possibilities.
Until next time, my friends, keep chasing those dreams!
