A Student Book That Parents and Educators Love

I'm Possible Book - A Kid's Guide to Building Resilience by Motivational Youth Speaker Eddie Cortes
Are you ready to help your students achieve the impossible? In his book, “I’m Possible”, a kids book about resilience, Eddie Cortés provides a roadmap for helping students become resilient problem-solvers and dream-chasers.

Top Youth Speaker Eddie Cortés in Anne Arundel County Public Schools, MD

If you walked into a school in Maryland you’d see the “I’M POSSIBLE” movement in full force. I just wrapped up an incredible three-school tour through Hanover, Severn, and Laurel, and let me tell you, if the future of this country is in the hands of these Maryland students, we are in for something truly spectacular. Pull up a chair and grab a refill, because I’ve got some stories from the road that prove resilience is the ultimate superpower.

The “Face-Plant” Mental Block

Let’s get real for a second. We’ve all been there—that moment where you try something new, you stumble, and your brain immediately whispers, “I can’t do this.” For a student, a “face-plant” on a math test or a setback on the playground doesn’t just feel like a mistake; it feels like a stop sign.

The challenge I see in so many students isn’t a lack of smarts—it’s a growth mindset gap. They are under immense pressure to be perfect, and when perfection fails, they often want to retreat. Without a solid social emotional learning framework, “impossible” becomes a permanent label rather than a temporary hurdle. The question for every educator is: How do we help kids realize that their potential is greater than any “can’t” they’ll ever face?

The I’m Possible Resilience School Assembly Program

That is exactly why I’m paassionate about I’m Possible Assembly and excited to bring it to three incredible Maryland schools this week. My goal as a high-energy speaker is to deliver an experience that feels less like a lecture and more like a breakthrough. Through humor, honesty, and a whole lot of fun, we leaned into the truth that success isn’t about avoiding the fall—it’s about how you get back up.

Hebron-Harman Elementary School: Where Dreams Get an Autograph

The energy at Hebron-Harman was pure magic. After the school assembly I spent time in the classrooms signing autographs and just hanging out with the students. I heard it all—future authors, programmers, artists, inventors, and YouTubers! The school culture here is clearly focused on shaping leaders.

A massive shout-out to Phi from Community Schools. The work you’re doing to fund these programs and impact the community is mission-critical, and I’m honored to partner with you. On stage, a student named Sean helped me share my childhood dream of playing for the New York Yankees. Sean was charismatic, fun, and had the kind of excitement that is absolutely contagious.

Thank you, Principal Kristen Morton and AP Marcus Williams, for the incredible hospitality and for fostering a culture where students feel safe to dream big!

Ridgeway Elementary School: Winning Over the O’s Fans

Talk about a tough crowd—in the best way possible! I walked into the gym rocking my Aaron Judge New York Yankees jersey, only to find out that the Baltimore Orioles had been at the school the day prior for an assembly. Needless to say, the heckling was top-tier!

But here’s the beauty of a growth mindset: we turn obstacles into opportunities. By the end of the school assembly program, the very students who were teasing me were the ones leading the “EDDIE! EDDIE!” chant that echoed through the hallways. The word around the school was that this Yankee fan actually “one-upped” the O’s!

A huge thank you to Principal Jessica Alvear and AP Molly Courtien for investing so deeply in your students’ emotional stamina. You’ve built an incredibly enthusiastic community.

Brock Bridge Elementary School: The Kindest School in America

Brock Bridge might actually be the kindest school I’ve ever visited. While I was setting up, several students introduced themselves, asking about my background and my nationality. We talked sports (we agreed Messi is the GOAT), Latin food, and music.

I even went back to my old-school roots and rapped a few acapella songs for them!

Once the assembly started, the energy stayed electric. A student named Jamison helped me on stage, and his massive smile said it all. He was a natural!

Thank you, Principal Erica Garren and AP Jennifer Beamer, for the amazing school culture you’ve created. It’s clear that kindness and excellence go hand-in-hand here.

Cultivating an “I Can. I Will!” Attitude

The shift I saw across these three schools was palpable. By the end of each session, students weren’t just inspired—they were equipped. By focusing on a dedicated social emotional learning program, we saw:

  • Developed Resilience: Students learned that a “face-plant” is just a setup for a comeback.
  • Embraced a Growth Mindset: They walked away with the “I can. I will!” attitude that turns a love of learning into a lifelong habit.
  • Unlocked Potential: Students left with the confidence to pursue their passions with unwavering determination.

When a student realizes that “impossible” is actually just “I’m Possible,” it doesn’t just change their afternoon—it changes their trajectory.

A Maryland-Sized Thank You!

To the leadership teams at Hebron-Harman, Ridgeway, and Brock Bridge: thank you for the invitation, the warm welcome, and the world-class hospitality. It is an absolute privilege to stand in your school and pour into your “All-Stars.”

To the students: Keep being relentless. Keep being kind. And always remember: Impossible is just I’M POSSIBLE!

ABOUT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER EDDIE CORTÉS

With over 20 years of experience, Eddie Cortés is regarded as one of the most engaging elementary and middle school speakers in the youth market. His mission is to empower students to build resilience and a positive self-worth. This mission is personal. As a middle schooler, Eddie stopped believing in himself. In fact, his negative self-view impacted his grades, relationships, choices, and ultimately his dreams. This experience is what fuels Eddie’s mission. He wants every elementary and middle school student to know that they are worthy of their dreams and have the tools to chase them.
