MOTIVATIONAL YOUTH SPEAKER

“No one has ever told me that I was worthy of big dreams. I needed to hear that. Thank you.”

That’s what a quiet, reserved student whispered to me after a school assembly program this week. Her words hit me like a ton of bricks. It’s a heartbreaking truth that a young person could reach high school without ever hearing those words. But in that moment, I became profoundly grateful to have the opportunity to affirm her worth.

I was sharing a deeply personal story with 7th and 8th graders at Somerset Academy about the verbal abuse I endured from my father. I talked about how his words and his absence made me question my self-worth. But when I mentioned that my mother found the courage to divorce him and free us from his abuse, the students did something truly incredible.

I was so honored to emcee the 2025 Youth Summit, presented by Supervisor Shanelle Scales-Preston in Contra Costa County, California. This wasn’t just another event; it was a powerful conference designed to inspire the next generation of leaders. It was a jam-packed day of workshops, keynotes, and a festival of innovation, and the students were absolutely electric from start to finish.

I recently had the privilege of bringing my I’m Possible School Assembly Program to St. Joseph Parish School in Sylvania, OH, and let me tell you, it was an absolute home run (pun intended). The energy was contagious, and the students were incredible. It was a day filled with laughter, big dreams, and an unforgettable lesson in resilience—all thanks to one amazing fourth grader.
