A Day to Remember: Spreading Resilience at Atrisco Elementary School with Motivational Youth Speaker Eddie Cortes

Hello, friends! I’m excited to share my latest adventure as a motivational youth speaker. On September 26th, I had the honor of speaking at Atrisco Elementary School in Albuquerque, NM. The day was filled with lessons on resilience, dreams, and the incredible stories of impact.

Resilience: The Key to Chasing Dreams

The central theme of the day was resilience—a quality that’s like a secret weapon on our journey to achieving our dreams. I spoke passionately about the importance of doing hard things to chase our dreams. Sometimes, those hard things may seem impossible at first, but they’re the stepping stones to our success. We all have the power within us to say, “I can do hard things.”

My Dream of Baseball and the Crushing Doubt

I shared a personal story about my dream of becoming a major league baseball player and wearing the coveted NY Yankees uniform. However, this dream crumbled because of the doubt cast by my cousin. He told me I wasn’t big enough, strong enough, or fast enough to make it to the pros. His words shattered my confidence, and I gave up on my dream that day.

Empowering the Students

But, the heartwarming part of the story was how I turned this experience into a lesson for the students at Atrisco Elementary. I emphasized to them that they are more than enough and worthy of their dreams. Their potential far surpasses their limitations, and they are brimming with possibilities. I stressed that failure is not the end but a valuable learning opportunity that brings them closer to their dreams.

The assembly was a remarkable experience. I could see the “aha” moment light up on students faces as they embraced these empowering words.

The Heartwarming Highlights

While the entire day was incredible, there were two moments that touched my heart deeply.

Lawrence: Belief in Dreams

The first highlight was when Lawrence, a fourth-grade student, pulled me aside. He looked me in the eye and said he believed in me. Lawrence wholeheartedly believed that I had what it takes to play professional baseball and believed for me to achieve my dream of playing for the New York Yankees. His genuine encouragement warmed my heart and affirmed that the message had truly resonated with him.

Abby: Embracing Failure

The second heartwarming moment came from Annabelle, a fourth-grade student. She shared a quote about failure that she had been reminded of during the presentation: “Failure is a stepping stone towards success.” It was a testament to her understanding of the lesson and her newfound determination to tackle hard things, no matter how insurmountable they may seem.

Atrisco Elementary: A Place of Potential and Compassion

Speaking at Atrisco Elementary School was an incredible experience. The school is a hub of intelligent and compassionate students and is staffed by caring educators. I want to give a special shoutout to Christina and Daniel for their warm invitation, hospitality, and the instant friendship that made me feel right at home. Their leadership shines through their affection for their students, and I have no doubt that Atrisco Elementary is developing resilient dream chasers.

In Conclusion: Resilience and Dreams

As I reflect on my day at Atrisco Elementary School, one teaching point stands out: resilience is the key to chasing our dreams. The belief that “I can do hard things,” the empowerment of students to embrace their worth and potential, and the understanding that failure is a stepping stone to success—all these elements are essential on our journey to achieving our dreams.

I’m continually reminded of the incredible impact a motivational youth speaker can have on young hearts and minds. Atrisco Elementary is proof that dreams are nurtured and that the best is yet to come.

Stay tuned for more adventures as I continue to inspire and be inspired by the remarkable students I have the privilege to meet. Until next time, friends!
